Introduction

Leon Syfrit is a photographer and visual artist whose work explores the creative potential of found and overlooked materials. Drawing inspiration from discarded objects, natural elements, and everyday remnants, he creates striking photographic works using subjects such as worn automobile tires, plants, insects, and other unexpected materials. His practice is driven by a fascination with transforming ordinary fragments into compelling visual compositions that reveal beauty in the overlooked.
In addition to constructed imagery, Leon works in documentary photography and alternative photographic processes, embracing diverse approaches to image-making. His artistic perspective was shaped from an early age by a creative upbringing: his mother, an artist, created sculptures from collected seashells and driftwood, while his father, a chef, expressed artistry through culinary presentation. These influences fostered a lifelong appreciation for both visual storytelling and craftsmanship.
Leon's work has been featured in publications, exhibitions, and private collections, and he has received artist grants in recognition of his creative contributions. He previously taught photography at Delaware College of Art and Design and studio arts at Somerset Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada. Leon holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of the Arts and an Associate of Fine Arts from Delaware College of Art and Design.
