Mahmud Hossain Opu is an internationally published and award-winning Bangladeshi photojournalist recognized for his fearless frontline reporting, human-centered storytelling and commitment to documenting truth during times of crisis. With more than a decade of experience, his work explores humanitarian issues, migration, climate change and political unrest across South Asia.

Mahmud began his career at The Dhaka Tribune before becoming Chief Photographer and later a Contract Photographer for The Associated Press. His images have appeared in internationally renowned publications including The New York Times, National Geographic, TIME, The Guardian and The Economist. He has documented defining events including the Rana Plaza collapse, the Rohingya refugee crisis and climate-induced displacement in Bangladesh.

His work has received international recognition through awards, fellowships and exhibitions, including honors from The Associated Press and the BRAC Migration Media Award. Mahmud brings valuable editorial expertise, global field experience and a deeply human perspective as a juror.
