Introduction
Muhammad Amdad Hossain (b. 1999) is a Bangladeshi Independent photographer and visual artist whose work explores climate change, water insecurity, environmental justice, displacement, and the resilience of vulnerable communities. Based in Chattogram, Bangladesh, he combines long-term documentary practice, field research, ethical storytelling, and visual reporting to document underreported environmental and social issues.
His work has been published by National Geographic, CNN, BBC, The Guardian, Forbes, Financial Times, UNESCO, United Nations platforms, South China Morning Post, and Yahoo News, among more than 150 international media outlets. His photographs have received 200+ international photography awards and have been exhibited in more than 40 countries at internationally recognized institutions and festivals, including the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition, Royal Geographical Society’s Earth Photo Exhibition in London, Head On Photo Festival, PhotoEspaña, World Art Dubai, ROSL Photography Award Exhibition, Scope Art Fair Miami, and the Yeoju International Photo Festival.
Hossain is an AFP Marai Photo Grant recipient and has received professional training at Counter Foto, Bangladesh. He completed the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop organized by The VII Foundation and PhotoWings, under the mentorship of Smita Sharma, as well as an editorial mentorship with Agence France-Presse (AFP) under Vijay Mathur.
He is a contract photographer with ZUMA Press, a photographer with Solent News & Photo Agency, and a contributor to NurPhoto, Science Photo Library, and Cover Media. He is also a Masters Member of the Asian Art Association (Singapore), an Ambassador for Amazing Aerial Agency (Croatia) and the 24HourProject, a Professional Member of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and a member of the BPP – Association of Professional People & Portrait Photographers.
As an internationally recognized photography professional, Hossain has also served as a jury member for several international photography competitions, including Wiki Loves Earth, Global Photography Awards, MUSE Photography Awards, and the New York Photography Awards.
His current work focuses on documenting the human impact of climate change in Bangladesh, with particular emphasis on water, adaptation, environmental justice, and the resilience of communities living in environmentally vulnerable regions.
